He was appointed Director General of Fourth(corresponding to the current Third) Examination Department (1996-1998) in charge of chemical patent applications and then Deputy Director General of WIPO (1998-2003) in charge of patent, trademark, industrial design, geographical indications, copyright and related right, enforcement and cooperation with countries in transition.
After retirement from WIPO in 2003, he served until 2006 as Special Advisor to the Director General of WIPO and contributed to the establishment of the WIPO Japan Office, which now exists in Tokyo. He was also appointed Visiting Professor of University of Tokyo, Tohoku University and GRIPS (National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies).
He has also been active in giving, at universities, industry circles or client companies,lectures or presentations on a variety of international/global IP issues. He has long been an active participant in AIPPI, FICPI, AIPLA and INTA meetings, and he was a member of WHO CEWG(World Health Organization Consultative Expert Working Group on Research and Development: Financing and Coordination), which was established in 2010 and which submitted its final report (http://www.who.int/phi/en/index.html) to the May 2012 (65th) World Health Assembly.
Since he joined our firm in 2006 as a registered patent attorney, with such broad and deep knowledge and experiences, both national and and international, he has been actively involved in prosecution, litigation and consultancy services for our clients, in particular in the area of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
